The G-Force Rival is BFGoodrich’s Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for sports car, muscle machine and pro-touring car driving enthusiasts who want their tires to turn heads on the street and lower lap times at the track. Created with razor-sharp reflexes, the g-Force Rival is designed to raise the limits by delivering extreme grip that’s extremely predictable. However, like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, these tires are not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

G-Force Rival tires feature a Silica-infused compound molded into asymmetric tread designs that are performance-tuned to match tire width (265mm and narrower sizes feature a 3-rib design, while 275mm and wider sizes use a 4-rib pattern). Large, solid outboard tread blocks and BFGoodrich’s Extreme Tread Edge (ETE) shoulder design wraps the tread compound farther down the sidewalls for predictable feedback and maximum cornering grip from start to finish. Lateral groove draft angles promote consistent performance and wear, while chamfered block edges resist feathering under extreme cornering and braking.

The tire’s internal structure features BFGoodrich’s Performance Racing Core reinforced internal structure that reduces flex to increase steering response. The tread is stabilized by twin steel belts and an Equal TEnsion Containment System (ETEC System) of spirally wrapped nylon to optimize the tire’s contact patch and traction at speed. g-Control sidewall inserts tune the sidewall stiffening to promote steering response.

  1. Got these for autocross, These are a decent tire but there are much better options. The biggest problem is heat. These tires overheat very easy and turn into excellent drift tires. These will make it the entire autoX season but will be gladly replaced. I thought it was weight issue of the GT-R creating the overheat problem but others with much lighter vehicles such as VW GOLF and EVOX have the same problem. after the second run they get very greasy at that point the OEM run flats are a better tire.

  2. I’ve had experience with other tires in the EPS category…Hankook RS2s, RS3s, Dunlop Direzza Z1 *, and these perform best out of the lot, in the dry anyway. Haven’t had them in the wet and don’t plan to, i hear that is their main weakness. Using these exclusively for HPDE/Track Day. I drove to the track on them and didn’t find them to be excessively noisy, and ride comfort is on par with others in this segment. At the track: Excellent steering response/turn in. Almost telepathic, and i had to recalibrate myself because it was so quick. Track surface stayed pretty cool all day due to 60* ambient temp. No overheating issues with these tires, and warm up within 1 slow pace lap. Breakaway was relatively progressive and i felt i had plenty of warning. I really like the feedback they offer at the limit, a very confidence inspiring tire. They have a lot of grip. Guess i can’t say enough good things about them, i would definitely buy another set of these. I look forward to seeing how they wear.

  3. Great tire with awesome treadwear. I daily drive this tire and have put 2 hours of track time and 70 or so autocross runs, they still have a bit more life in them. Not great with standing water but overall this tire is great for the money.

  4. I had BFG G-Force Rivals now on my cars since they first came out in 2013. I originally had them on a 2007 Ford Focus that was my daily driver and weekend autoX car. They made such a huge difference in the cars handling both at autoX event and in everyday driving as well lasting for two years (used in months of Apr-Oct) that I opted to get a set for my 2010 Mustang V6 Coupe (4.0L) this year. So far so good…handling and steering response is WAY UP and my first autoX event went pretty well (time wasn’t so great, but that was probably more on the rubbery object in the driver’s seat and less about the rubber on the road 🙂 Would definitely recommend this for your first (and if your on a tight budget, only) upgrade for the summer…they are not just fun on the track but make the slog to and from work something to look forward too!

  5. This is a good tire for track and autocross events. It’s good on the first lap out and comes up to temp to get better. It communicates it’s limits and gives some warning before traction in lost. It’s good for street driving, just a little more road noise than premium run flat brands.

  6. I ran the Rival at HPDE and SCCA Solo for 4 years. Each set of the Rival could get me 2 seasons on average. It is a durable long lasting 200TW, but it isn’t quite as fast as the new Rival S or RE71R. However, the RE71R only lasted me a single 3 day event at Circuit of the Americas. The traction can be superior on the new “200TW” tires, but the longevity isn’t there. If all out performance is less important than having an HPDE or AX tire that lasts an entire season or two, then pick these up. They are nearly unkillable.

  7. I drive the M Coupe for autocross only, and some around town stuff. Tires have less than 600 miles and they are gone….always kept at proper inflation and not driven in cold weather

  8. For my heavy, powerful, Audi S6, there are very few choices for performance tires that measure up in load rating, and size. The BFGoodrich Rival has one size, and am I thankful for this. I’m fresh off of two days at Buttonwillow Raceway in Central California. This is a fast, curvy track, with a well paved surface. I’ve run here several times in past years, and previously on a set of Sumitomo HTR Z III tires, and the difference is so dramatic as to cause me to write this review. My car dry is 4300 pounds, and wet – with two occupants – closer to 4800 lbs. Tire pressures cold were set to 38 lbs all around. Two laps to wear off the skin, and heat up the cords, and we started to fly. After the 20 minute sessions, the first pressures while hot, read: 42 lbs for the rears, and 48 lbs in the fronts. These were equalized all around at 42 lbs. The second session yielded better results as I became acquainted with the threshold braking capacity of the tires: 42 rears, and 44 fronts – again equalized to 42 all around. By the third and fourth session, and into the second day, these pressures were maintained. My driving style is aggressive with the straight line, threshold braking, and then apexing the corners under moderate-to-increasing full acceleration. This keeps me from scrubbing the tires with understeer, and promotes great wear and lower tire temperatures for a fully enthusiastic session, without compromise. It’s easy to be enthusiastic about these tires! My times, top speeds, and control through high speed turns was dramatically improved. Also loved the sound feedback that occurred when slip was imminent, very predictable aural feedback.
