The SP Sport 5000 is Dunlop’s Ultra High Performance All-Season radial developed for drivers of sports cars, sporty coupes and performance sedans. The SP Sport 5000 is designed to provide ultra high performance and all-season versatility by blending traction on dry and wet roads with traction in light snow.

Depending on the tire size and/or Original Equipment vehicle application, the tires feature either an asymmetric or symmetric tread design to tune their comfort, traction and performance characteristics. Most lower profile sizes feature an asymmetric tread design that feature large interconnected outer shoulder blocks and independent intermediate tread blocks to enhance dry road cornering and stability, while the inner tread blocks with open shoulder grooves enhance wet traction and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Most higher aspect ratio sizes feature a symmetric version with large shoulder blocks, notched intermediate ribs and a continuous center rib to balance dry cornering and handling with wet traction and hydroplaning resistance.

Full-face, cross-cut sipes engineered into all sizes provide more biting edges for slush and snow traction, and an exclusive high performance all-season tread compound is used to blend traction, treadwear, and rolling resistance to meet a wide range of driving and weather conditions. The tires’ internal structures include twin steel belts reinforced by Dunlop’s Jointless Band (JLB) technology that uses spirally wound nylon to provide high-speed durability while it reduces weight and helps provide more uniform ride quality.

  1. I work with Goodyear and bought this tire through the associate program. I bought a used Acura TL and barely got to drive on the OE Michelins. I got the nice looking Dunlop’s and was pretty impressed with it as I started, on the dry days. Excellent handling and dry traction. Come the day of hurricane and heavy rains in Kansas, and on several occasions thought I would definitely die. Terrible hydroplaning resistance. I was not sure whether it was the tires or my technology heavy car. Having moved to Ohio, winter showed no mercy and the tires no resistance. Terrible snow and ice traction. To the point, that once I got stuck in 2″ of snow. Desperately turned my traction control off to have bruised my tread. The next time I drive, the noise is simply unbearable. I feel like sitting in a boiler room. Upholding my loyalty to the company, I am switching to the Goodyear Assurance ComforTreds. I hear good things about it. time to revive my car. To be very fair, it is a UHP tire and it did pretty much what it is designed for. I had higher mileage expectations which I expect around 40k. Mine wore out at 30k 🙁

  2. This is the stock OEM tire that came from the factory on my 2010 Civic. Straight away, I noticed the high road noise from this tire even when it was brand new, and properly inflated. I drove this tire through its first winter on my car back in 2010, and it performed just around average, with little traction under light snow and ice, and sluggish steering responsiveness. It did okay under wet conditions, but was definately lacking grip under wet cornering, and did not inspire confidence when attempting to maintain a steady speed under sharp turns in the wet. Worst of all its treadwear was alarming, after barely 28000kms – not miles – the tread was almost gone, and the tires began making loud noises around 25000kms. Bare in mind, my Civic has been factory dealership maintained, always had its balancing, alignment done when needed, and has never been off-roaded. Yet the tires barely made it to 30,000KMS. I tossed out these tires straight away, and will neither buy dunlops again, nor would I recommend them to anyone.

  3. I have those tires for 3-years now. I don’t hear that loud of a sound, and don’t see it wearing or cracking. As for the traction, its good. And for how i drive, i floor it and sudden brake a lot, so i would say i’m placing lots of stress on the tires, but its so far so good.

  4. I am not a Dunlop Tire shill. That said…I will have to disagree with the reviewer from Boston Ma., the SP 5000’s on my Honda were terrific on ice and snow. There have been countless snow storms here in SW Ontario when I have been on the 6 lane highway doing 50mph in the outside lane that I had all to myself while the folks with their snow rires putter along at 30-40 mph, clogging up the middle lane. Lane changes in these conditions were not adventurous – a good thing ! Performance has dropped off recently but after 50,000 miles, that would be true of virtually any tire, I would think. You could do worse that the SP 5000.

  5. Although I have only put 500 miles on the set, my Jag feels like a different car compared to the OEM Pirelli P-zero tires.Nice handling, solid grip cornering.

  6. These came on my new Mazda 40,000 miles ago. I drive mostly highway, and the front tires look like they will last to between 45-50 thousand miles. Considering the car is front wheel drive I figure the back tires may last to 100,000 miles at the current wear rate. The tires began to get noisy at about 30k. I live in south Florida, and can generally double the speed limit on an exit/entrance ramps when other cars are not in the way. These tires never make you wonder about traction even when going 50mph around an exit ramp. I will continue buying these tires as long as I have the car.
