The Winter Maxx SJ8 is Dunlop’s Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow tire developed for the drivers of crossovers, SUVs, light trucks and minivans looking for confident handling and braking performance on cold, wet, snow-covered and icy roads.
Winter Maxx SJ8 tires feature a specialized Nano-Fit tread compound molded into a directional pattern. This winter-focused compound is designed to combine flexibility and rigidity to conform to the micro-texture of low-friction surfaces. Four wide, circumferential grooves combined with wide lateral notches and open shoulder slots help evacuate water and slush away from the contact patch. The Maxx Sharp Edge with Miura-Ori sipes enhance the number of biting edges per tread block, helping prevent block distortion while also providing traction on wet, snowy and icy surfaces.
Internal construction of the Winter Maxx SJ8 consists of a two-ply, polyester casing to aid durability while maintaining ride comfort. Two wide, steel belts support the tread area, with a two-ply nylon reinforcement cap to enhance handling and provide high-speed capability.
Winter Maxx SJ8 tires meet the industry’s severe snow service requirements and are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.
Note: Snow platform indicators (the equivalent of “snow wear bars”) are molded into the Winter Maxx SJ8’s tread grooves to inform the driver when winter traction will be reduced as the tire’s tread reaches the point where the remaining tread depth becomes less effective in deep snow and slush.
