The Champion Fuel Fighter (H-or V-Speed Rated) is Firestone’s Standard Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans, family minivans and crossover vehicles looking for year-round capability and long treadwear combined with fuel efficiency and a comfortable ride.

The Champion Fuel Fighter molds a silica-enhanced, Long-Link Carbon all-season tread compound into a symmetric design focused on even wear and easy rotation to provide miles of quiet service. Four circumferential grooves help guide water through the tire’s footprint for improved wet grip while full-depth tread features provide the biting edges to enhance traction in light snow.

Firestone’s Fuel Fighter Technology is employed in the Champion Fuel Fighter to optimize the components and construction of the tire in an effort to improve fuel economy. Fuel Fighter Sidewall Technology uses an optimized compound design for added efficiency and the Fuel Fighter Steel Cord is a proprietary steel cord configuration that provides strength while adding less weight, further increasing the expected fuel savings.

The tire’s internal structure includes a one- or two- ply (depending on size) polyester body casing beneath two wide steel belts with a spirally-wrapped nylon reinforcement to deliver durability, ride quality and stability. The reinforcement utilizes Firestone’s Fuel Fighter Nylon Application, an optimized application process focused on improving fuel economy.

  1. Stay away from these tires. You’re better off buying a better tire for a higher cost than getting these and here’s why. Had these for one year and with only 15k miles they are halfway worn. My biggest complaint is not that but they are extremely loud! Not even exaggerating that in any way. We had the four wheel alignment when they were installed and have had them rotated but it sounds like something is wrong with the vehicle they are that loud. The ride is decent as they do handle bumps well. That is the only thing nice I have to say about them and I work for Firestone so it’s very disappointing to be so critical. I’ve heard tires only this noisy on a offroad vehicle with mudders. Thinking it surely couldn’t be the tires I’ve replaced the wheel bearings believing that’s what was causing the noise but nope. That isn’t the issue. One more thing I’ll mention is that on the highway they are too responsive and you constantly have to correct to keep the car tracking straight. I hope I’ve dissuaded someone from trying to save some money and winding up with these. P.S. “Fuel Fighter” is a gimmick (no change in mpg)

  2. These tires came new from a dealership when I bought a used car. To improve my traction, I’m replacing them with a matching set of waxed skis. Sarcasm aside, do not purchase these if you have rain or snow in your area. A good tire for Tuscon, Arizona, perhaps, but not for Bangor, Maine.

  3. Bought these tires in hopes of better gas mileage and longer tire life. I probably drive about 10K miles a year but after about 2 years the tires are almost bald and I get my car aligned every 7,500 miles. There was no increase in gas mileage, only a decrease in tire wear and less traction that OEM.

  4. These tires are good in dry conditions. However, they do not perform well in snow and ice, even though I have AWD.

  5. These are the LOUDEST tires I have ever owned on any vehicle I ever driven. They sound like off-road knobbies on a Wrangler. The braking performance of my car is indescribably worse since I put these tires on because it’s all the shop has in my size tire. These are not good at all. Avoid them. Completely.

  6. Purchased these at a Firestone store. Got a”deal” because they didn’t have the Firestone Destination’s that I wanted. Took a trip last April through Northern West Virginia to Columbus. Horrible in light snow and ice. Driving on dry roads is inconsistent. Sometimes they feel great, and other times it is like I need an alignment. Already at the point I need to consider replacement tires. Not even half way to the 70000 mile advertised as life of the tire. Also, not really a fan of touring tires. Seem too soft. Not as nice or capable as all season or all terrain tires. Better to spend your money on other brand(s).

  7. These are the loudest tires I’ve ever owned. Sometimes when they are new it takes a while to break them in, but these have only gotten louder. Rotated tires and had alignment checked every 5,000 miles, and with only 23,000 miles two of the tires are down to 2/32 the other two are at 5/32. Definitely not going to get anywhere near 65k out of them, looking for new tires now. Do not recommend these tires at all if you enjoy a quiet ride and don’t want to replace them after a year or two. TERRIBLE TIRES!!!
