The Destination M/T is Firestone’s Off-Road Maximum Traction tire developed to meet the needs of pickup truck and sport utility vehicle drivers who desire the looks and performance associated with rugged, off-road driving. The Destination M/T was the first Firestone light truck tire to use UNI-T Technology to combine off-road traction with enhanced on-road capabilities. UNI-T is a combination of technologies that merge a comprehensive design method with innovative manufacturing features to enhance tire comfort, performance and wear.

The Destination M/T features a Long Link Carbon (a special form of molecular re-engineered carbon black) enhanced tread compound to improve wet performance and wear on the road while maintaining cut, tear and abrasion resistance off the road. The tread compound is molded into a symmetric tread design comprised of deep lugs and an over-the-shoulder tread/lug design that features alternating width shoulder lugs with a low, 23-degree attack angle to provide the biting edges necessary to dig down, as well as claw at the sides of ruts to generate pulling power. Rim Guard Off-Road Protector Ribs molded on the sidewalls help deflect off-road debris from between the tire bead and rim area, keeping the lower sidewall stiffer and allowing the bead to fit tighter to the rim. The tire’s internal structure includes high-tensile, steel cord belts reinforced by a spirally wrapped nylon cap ply with Firestone’s Dura-Loc 3.0 (a 3-ply polyester cord body) to enhance durability and highway stability.

While Off-Road Maximum Traction tires, which are often called mud tires, are branded with the M+S symbol and able to churn through deep snow, their typical oversize applications and the absence of snow-biting sipes in their large smooth lugs can challenge their on-road wintertime traction on packed snow and icy surfaces.

  1. This a great tire in of its self, however, for what I need it for it does need to be siped. I have rated this tire without the siping, but with siping all the lower numbers go way up with most being 9 or 10. It does great on deep snow and mud, but not very good on packed snow and ice. Once it is siped that is much improved. Now that it is discontinued for a new style it will be interesting to see how the new on handles those same thing.

  2. These tires are the best tire for that I have found for mud and off road. Definitely not much noise when driving on the highway. I use my truck for work at construction sites and on land with sandy soil. It has good traction in sandy conditions.

  3. I’m on my 4th set of Destination MTs. The first three all went over 70,000 miles. Great traction and not a bad ride for 10 ply tires.

  4. Great tread wear. I pull heavy trailers on the highway and off-road and these tires are the best I’ve found. I currently have 41k miles on them and anticipate getting 60k out them. Very little road noise is a plus and I will definitely buy them again.

  5. I was apprehensive about purchasing this aggressive of a tread for my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, but I couldn’t be happier. Off Road they are the best traction tire I have ever had, quieter than I expected and as smooth has a highway tire at highway speeds. The other reviews I read said that they ran them on the highway and were happy, and I agree… this is a GREAT tire. I will definitely purchase another pair somewhere down the road.

  6. Absolutely love these tires. I will absolutely purchase them again if these ever wear out. Well over 40k on this set, and they are just now getting a little choppy. Most of which is my neglect to rotate them, as well as going through a loose lower ball joint and outer tie rod. Tires are very quiet for being a mud terrain. Obviously they are louder than any highway tire.Excellent in everything besides sand ( at highway pressure), snow and ice performance are excellent as well. My only words of advice, rotate them often, keep tire pressures set properly, and make sure your alignment is good, otherwise they will wear very prematurely.
