The G-MAX RS is General’s Ultra High Performance Summer tire designed for the drivers of performance sedans, modern muscle cars, sports cars and sporty coupes looking for bold performance in warm dry and wet conditions. Like all summer tires, the G-MAX RS is not intended to be driven, stored nor serviced in near- or below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

General G-MAX RSA high-performance summer compound is molded into the G-MAX RS’s purposeful, directional tread pattern. The solid center rib provides confident on-center feel and aids acceleration and braking, while General’s SmartGrip Technology provides crisp steering response and sporty handling. StabiliTread Technology creates a wide contact patch with even pressure distribution to benefit both cornering traction and tire longevity. Wide, angled notches in the intermediate ribs help channel water to the deep circumferential grooves to resist hydroplaning, and along with open shoulder slots create biting edges for traction in slippery conditions.

Internal Construction of the G-MAX RS consists of a single-ply polyester casing. The high-turnup casing improves steering response and results in a two-ply sidewall. Two high-strength steel belts feature a two-ply polyamide reinforcement to further enhance handling, along with providing high-speed capability.

G-MAX RS tires utilizes General’s SmartMonitor Technology, with the words “Replacement Tire Monitor” molded into the tire’s center rib. When the tire reaches 2/32″ remaining tread depth, the Replacement Tire Monitor evolves to read “Replace Tire” alerting the driver the tire has reached the wear bars.

Ultra High Performance Summer tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Note: Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Ultra High Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. While compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

  1. I have a staggered set up on my car, 225-45-18 in front and 255-40-18 in back. I got these to replace the Runflats on my car. They Runflats weren’t all the way through, probably had an 3 or 4 32nds of tread. However, I hated those tires with my whole being. They were noisy, harsh, slow to respond, with low levels of traction overall. These have been a massive improvement, which will be explained in the rest of this reviewI have heard that the recommended tire is a Pilot Sport 4, but I don’t autocross or race through canyons every week and primarily drive to/from work and school in a rather quick fashion. It doesn’t make sense for me to spend $230+ per tire to tear up sticky performance tires going in a straight line through bumper-to-bumper traffic. My search for alternatives led me to the Firestone Indy 500 and this. From what I’ve heard, the Indy 500s are grippier but firmer and louder (though still relatively quiet) and these were a little less performance oriented. This results in a softer sidewall, less overall grip, but a softer and quieter ride. I can’t make a direct comparison, but these tires are very smooth and very quiet when compared to my old Runflats. The ride is a lot softer, much more quiet especially at highway speeds, much smoother, and these have far more grip. Overall I am very happy with these and can’t recommend them enough. There are probably quieter tires and grippier tires on the market but the price point and balance that these tires strike is an incredible value.If you are looking for summer tires, you can’t beat these for the price. If you are caught between these and the Indy 500s like I was, I say spring for these if you are primarily looking for a comfortable daily drive and the Indy 500s if you are looking for a bit more performance. I have yet to drive these in the rain or go far enough to comment on tread wear, but I will update this review as I put more use into these.

  2. Great traction on wet and dry roads. Very confidence inspiring tire. I’m not easily impressed but I really think this tire is a great bang for your buck.

  3. I think summer tires are almost an essential upgrade for the Mazda3, they really awaken it over the stock eco tires. These are the only summer tires I’ve used on my Mazda3, but the level of grip they provided over stock was instantly noticeable. Better response, better grip, better stopping. I can’t recall specifically how they do in the rain, but that may be because they just work well in the rain – I would remember to mention hydroplaning or grip problems if they were there. I can definitely still break these tires free with an aggressive dry launch (FWD), but the last time I used summer tires was on an Impreza (AWD), so it’s hard to say how these summer tires compare to others in that department. Definitely, definitely, an improvement in quick starts over stock, though, where just a slightly quick start could cause some spinning.These tires do seem to be a bit noisier than stock and gas mileage has decreased somewhat. The decrease in gas mileage seems quite minor with long trips, so I think the tires have just made the car so much more fun that I drive more spiritedly! The ride is quite smooth but I also have a rather tall sidewall with 225/50-17 tires. I still want to get some more negative camber up front to see if there’s more to get from these tires, but I would definitely recommend them.

  4. So far this tire is quiet and provides excellent traction in wet and dry. Ride quality is good. Comparing to my Continental ExtremeContact DW it provides similar grip with better steering response.

  5. These tires are good for a budget summer tire. However be aware that the treadwear is not great. I’m at 6,000 miles on these and they will be down to the wear markers by 10,000 miles if not sooner. I expected to get about 15k out of them or roughly two summer worth of driving. These are on my 09 A3 3.2 Quattro and have been rotated once in the 6,000 miles. All tires are down to 6/32. They do perform decent for the price, but they don’t last very long. I typically drive this car on the highway and apparently these tires do not like that. The falken azenis fk510 is a similarly priced tire and I’ve got 5-6k miles on a set of those on my R32 which sees hard cornering, heavy use, and highway and the tread still is measuring 9/32.
