The Efficient Grip RunOnFlat is Goodyear’s Grand Touring Summer tire featuring temporary self-supporting run-flat mobility for a distance of 50 miles at up to 50 mph, even after a puncture has allowed complete air pressure loss. Designed for Original Equipment use on many Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Maybach, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles, the Efficient Grip RunOnFlat is tuned to meet the requirements of some of the world’s most prestigious vehicles. Like all summer tires, the Efficient Grip RunOnFlat is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The Efficient Grip RunOnFlat utilizes an optimized silica, summer-only tread compound molded into an asymmetric design that is tuned to deliver a smooth, quiet ride and responsive handling. The addition of silica in the tread compound provides enhanced wet traction, while the four wide, circumferential grooves evacuate water from beneath the contact patch to improve hydroplaning resistance.
Internal construction of the Efficient GripRunonFlat includes two wide, steel belts with a spirally wrapped polyamide reinforcement to add durability and high speed capabilities. The tire’s reinforced sidewalls are capable of temporarily supporting the weight of the vehicle, even without any internal air pressure. The casing material and ply count differ from size to size based on the needs of each vehicle manufacturer, but include single- or two-ply rayon cord or single-ply polyester cord.
NOTE: Run-flat tires are only recommended for vehicles that are originally equipped with self-supporting run-flat tires and equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system.
Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with “MOExtended” or “MOE” on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. Because MOExtended or MOE tires do not have the same speed and distance endurance of conventional run-flat tires, they should not be substituted in any situation where a conventional run-flat tire is required. Goodyear’s warranty states: “Ultra high-performance summer tires are not recommended for winter use, and tread or shoulder cracking on those tires resulting from winter use will not be covered under our warranty.” While compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

The tire is just insanely unreliable. My car is about 2 weeks old, driven for more than just 2000kms (highway and city), went thru a couple of normal potholes, and recently got a cut through the sidewall. the cut was so fine that it was almost unnoticable. I went to BMW to file a complain, as it was a possible defect even before they handed over to me. But turned out the Goodyear engineer reporting that the cut was due to some sharp object. All I can say is that this was a bad choice by BMW, and the tires are just like crap having read the reviews here. I do not recommend this tire, and BMW please do your research prior to selecting for your models. I am replacing to a different brand or normal (non run flat) ones as the time comes.
Great tire for when it lasts. I’ve owned my car for 1.8 years and have replaced all 4 tires 3 times now. I would NOT recommend the run flats. I live in Toronto Canada, use the tires only in the summer months and every time I hit a bump or elevated ground at 30km or more the tire develops a side wall goose egg that eventually splits open. Run flats do the job once you get a flat. But I was not expecting a run flat tire to cause more flats in my lifetime than I am old. Changed to a different tire (not a run flat) and no problems since. If you lease your BMW. you are in for a shock as you have to return it with the same tires on the car.
I purchased these tires as an alternative to the OEM Goodyear RS-A EMT tires. The Efficiend Grip Run on Flat (ROF) tires offer better handling and better cornering than the OEM tires. The Efficient Grip tires run cooler than the OEM tires as well and that should help to extend the life of these tires. I’ll write a review of these tires after I make it through the Utah winter! The tread design appears to offer better traction in snow than the OEM tires, but I will put them to the test. I only got about 18,000 miles on the OEM tires when the tread started to separate from the sidewall on the front tires. For a vehicle that can exceed 150 mph, that does not inspire confidence. If you are running your Jeep SRT8 on the OEM tires, I suggest switching to the Goodyear Efficient Grip ROF tires. I feel much safer running the Jeep up to the limit with these tires.
If this tire was installed on a non Sport line model, I’d understand, but on a Sport line 328i, it’s not the right tire. Typically, in the past, BMW had put real performance tires on their sport packages, usually in the Max Performance or Ultra High Performance class. These tires are too unresponsive, too vague on steering. At least they were easy to handle when you lose traction, but the limits were low. Even more of a downer, they drone quite loudly for a GT tire, which makes them really terrible tires. Well, I guess from a safety standpoint, they are safe — pretty predictable in the wet, but just not fun and not quiet.
These are the most disappointing tires I have ever owned. My experience with them has caused me to give up on run flats and any car that comes with them. They are unimaginably poor performers.
These tires came on the car from the factory. Why not the pirelli cinurato, couldn’t tell ya. Steering feel is non existent. I try my best not to hit potholes, but the first one I hit put a bulge in the sidewall. Wasn’t that big of a pothole either. Steering gets vague quick. Good on-center feel though, but a BMW with 300 hp should never come equipped with these tires.
This tire is horrible…I’m not sure what BMW is thinking! 3 potholes = 3 sidewall goose eggs = 3 new tires. Mind you, these are not serious potholes, just you normal crappy mid-Atlantic highways. I’m never seen anything like it and I can’t wait to get these off my car when the tread is gone.
