Derived from Pirelli’s legendary P Zero performance tires, the Scorpion Zero is a Street/Sport Truck All-Season tire for sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks. The Scorpion Zero was designed to provide year round traction and handling for drivers who operate their light truck vehicles primarily on-road in various weather conditions, including very occasional light snow.

Depending on tire size, the Scorpion Zero radial’s tread compound is molded into a single Z or double Z (two rows of Z-shaped tread blocks situated side-by-side) intermediate tread blocks to provide responsive steering, along with enhanced cornering and braking capability. Lateral grooves and wide circumferential grooves provide water evacuation to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet weather traction. Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires combine high-speed precision with low noise levels.

  1. So this tire is a size too big for my 2008 Cayenne GTS but it installed anyway. It fit. Have been driving on it for over 50k miles. On tire rack looking for another set. So thought I’d ride a review.

  2. My LR4 was outfitted with these tires and they are as bad as everyone says when it comes to tire wear. Almost all of my miles have been driven on the highway and they truck is never driven in a manner that would cause excessive tire wear. I understand that the vehicle is heavy and by its very nature will inflict wear, but this is really bad. I am wearing the wear indicators. I have rotated all 5 tires and have even wear, but will change them all out by 30,000 miles or before. Under normal driving conditions i would expect these tire to last about 15,000 miles. They are a little noisy for what they are, but i have my entire vehicle done in Hushmat so it is not an issue. The overall performance, especially in the rain, is good. I will try something new when I change these out.

  3. Only lasted 21,000 and I treated them like a baby. Balanced and aligned multiple times. I am going to find the serial number or lot number and ask a Rep…..what happened? These were on a Volvo XC70

  4. These are the OEM set of tires and after only 16,800 miles they are down to 3/32 to 5/32 of tread. The 5/32 on one of the tires is being generous. Would highly advise you stay away from these crappy tires unless you want to drop $1,000.00/every 17K miles.

  5. My truck came with Continental Contact and I replaced at 27,435 miles in Dec 2015 only because I wanted a fresh tread for winter. The Perelli Scorpion Zero is a tire I previously had a good experience with on a Volvo XC 90. Fast forward, I am at 4mm on the tread indicator at 17,000 miles. So, while I have provided good ratings on handling, treadlife is poor. I’m putting the Continental’s back on as I write.

  6. First things first – I think this tire is amazing for what it was designed for; city/highway driving. If that is all you are expecting to do I would highly recommend purchasing this for your vehicle.Next – If your driving habits reflect any similarities to my style of driving (mostly city/highway, daily driver, weekend warrior chasing forest service roads) I would recommend looking for an alternative. I only say this because my tires have been surprisingly chewed up on the forest service roads in the short amount of time I have owned them.I know this isn’t an AT tire and that I am pushing the limits of what this tire is designed for, but for the cost and the light driving on gravel roads i was a bit disappointed to see chewed up rubber with small cuts and missing pieces. This review is for those who get out on the weekends and like to drive/camp/adventure with their family. If you are urban based and stay on the pavement – got for it, you will not be disappointed.

  7. OEM tires on the LR4. Treadwear is bad. 15k miles and will be on the wear bars soon. Rotated every 6k. One tire has had an internal failure. A large knot is visible on the sidewall. One and Done experience with Pirelli! Stay away!

  8. A Land Rover dealer installed this tire new when I bought my LR4 (used with 37 K miles) in 2014. Unfortunately, my experience is exactly the same as that of some other LR4 owners on this site. After 17K on these tires, a very low frequency vibration and noise began to show up at 50 MPH and by 73 MPH the entire car is howling and shaking … a vibration up through the seat which is most certain and undesirable. I just returned from the dealer, who new exactly what to do. He cross rotated, balanced and aligned the tires and advise me that these are NOT suitable tires for LR4s; and to drive for another 1000 miles to settle in the tire, as it rotates in the opposite direction. At that point, I can determine how loud the tires will be for the next 15K. Balance was not the problem, nor alignment .. the issue is the rotational direction wears the tread pattern so it goes WOP, WOP, WOP after a while Driving off the dealer lot, they sound MUCH less threatening .. but the noise is still present. Tolerable … (but for how long?)The tire performed well initially, but the very Heavy LR4 (5600 lbs + empty) is too much for the tire, I suspect. If you own an LR3 or LR4, do not buy this tire.

  9. Came on my Tiguan as original equipment. Poor winter performance as they have aged, and I frankly no longer trust them in snow (or heavy rain). Replacing them next week with Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06. Hopefully they’ll work better for me here in northern Ohio.

  10. After 7,800 miles, mostly highway in winter and summer,I was very pleased with tires;however, at approximately 8000 miles of wear I sadly began to realize I had a problem. Since then have balanced them twice, tires are excessively wearing, feathering/cupping. Rear tires are now very noisy, cause car to vibrate/shake…even after recent rebalancing. Not pleased, at all! Can not believe Mercedes dealer would put them on! Great SUV…has to be a better tire!!

  11. These tires came stock on my 2013 GL550, and they are AWEFUL based solely on noise. The Truck has been built to be virtually silent to the tune that you are barely able to hear outside noise like sirens etc.., but the noise from these tires is horrible. I rode in the same vehicle with just the Summer only P-Zero, and not the Scorpion P-Zero and you did not even know you were moving like it should be. I will say these tires are excellent for light snow and Ice, and are ok in the rain, but the noise really is crazy given the work MB does to keep the car quiet. Bottom line, I would NOT recommend you buy these tires unless you are prepared to listen to the noise.

  12. These tires started out great with wet and snow traction superior to the OEM Continentals they replaced but at about 7000 miles the noise level at city driving speeds became unbearable. They have been rotated twice now and at 12,000 are nearly worn out. Inflation is proper so that is not a contributing factor nor is unusually spirited driving. I’ll run them until this winter and likely go back to the original Continentals.

  13. I have two Mercedes GL 550s. One came with the Pirelli Scorpion Zeros All Season, the other with Continental All Season (which have been discontinued). The first set of Pirellis had issues similar to what the other reviewers indicated. There was uneven wear and the cords started to show on the inside of the tire. It eventially led to a flat and how I discovered the problem with all the tires. The replacement tires were pro-rated by Pirelli and the wear issues seem to be fixed. The biggest issue now with the tire is ride quality and road noise. My other GL550 with the Continentals has a much better ride and and much less road noise. I had to replace the Continentals with Pirellis when I had road damage to two tires and when I went to replace the damaged tires found out the All Season Conitientals for the GL550 were discontinued. Now with the Pirelli’s the other GL550 has the same ride and road noise as my other GL. So it is the Pirelli’s causing the problem. I cannot believe Mercedes let Continental discontinue the OEM All Season tires for the GL550. The Pirelli is definitely not as good as a tire. I also find it stupid to put Summer tires on an all wheel drive vehicle, thus why I won’t by the Continental summer tires for the GL550. My wish, Mercedes convinces Continental to bring back the All Season in the GL550 oem size or someone like Michelin or Goodyear bring a tire out in the size. The problem is the size is a low volume tire, so I am not going to hold my breath. If you want all season for your GL550, for now you are stuck with the decent performing but noisy and harsh riding Pirellis

  14. Switched from the Conti’s to the Pirelli Scorpion Zero’s because of cost. BIG MISTAKE – have several Mercedes – CLS, E350, S550, GL450 – have always gone with the Conti’s or Michelins The Scorpions start out fine but then later the ROAD NOISE is unbelievable – sounds like you are riding on wooden tires – with 12,000 miles ready to throw out. Also very hard finding a local Pirelli Factory dealer in WI for warranty service – bought through Tire Rack, they said that I had to go to factory dealer for inspection – there are no local factory dealers in Milwaukee area for Pirelli. Lesson learned spend alittle more and get Conti’s or Michelins – DON’T waster your money (and ears) on the Pirelli’s especially on the GL series. Wish someone would hav ewrote this type of review BEFORE I bought the tires.

  15. I have gone through two full sets of these tires on my old Tahoe. The shoulders are quite stuff which means a) they wear off quite quickly (and then cornering falls off) and b) the tire follows every rut and groove in the road. These tires stop very well in the dry and corner very well when new, but cornering falls off rapidly as the shoulders wear–get massive understeer. But by far the worst problem is tire tracking… you dread all the little repair tracks and grooves on roads, especially in tight spots, because the SUV will try to dart left or right on you. Turns out I had bought new wheels with the Pirellis, so I always blamed my wheels (perhaps wrong offset) for this problem. I recently switched to Yokohams (285/60-18) and it was like I got a new car… no more darting. Heck, I thought they had repaved 101.

  16. What began as an excellent performance tire, became a nightmare within six months. The tires stuck like glue in the corners at first, but after 5-6,000 miles it start tapering off. By 12,000 they are still slightly better than the average tire, but it is still declining. However, the worst thing is the noise. They were slightly noisy at the beginning, but it seemed like every month it would double. Now, anything above 50mph prevents normal conversation and one must resort to yelling. The audio system is useless above 35mph. Fortunately these tires are now worn enough that they’re ready for replacement. I will not be purchasing any Pirelli tires for this car again.

  17. the Pirelli Scorpion Zero is a very good tire in many ways, and is better than most of its competitors. This set of tires lasted a very very long time but they started deteriorating at about 60,000 miles. they begun wearing very unevenly and cupped which caused very noisy highway miles (Alignment was checked and was perfect). I am on my second set as of this year now, and they are actually a really good tire when new.Dry: warm, dry weather these are great. Even though my GL is quite a large vehicle I drive very spiritedly and these tires offer great feel and turn in composure as well as grip. they are not quiet even when new, but are acceptably loud for the first 40-60,000 miles. After that number of miles, the tires should be replaced anyways for safety. braking performance is also very good even with a heavy trailer load.Wet: wet traction in the warm is quite good as well. no complaints about the tire, feels very well composed even under heavy rain conditions.Winter: this is where this tire ( and most other so called all seasons ) fall on their face. they’re almost unsafe when compared to my Nokian Hakkepeliita winter setup, but compared to other all-seasons, they are ok. ICE traction is where these are best in the winter. stopping is an issue with these, as is cornering. snow traction is very very poor (even when compared to rival all-season tires). anything up to 4″ is ok, but sketchy in the stability department. anything above 6″, even at low speeds, you aren’t going anywhere. even with all-wheel drive. they lack a pliable compound and grooves to get the job done.over all, it’s one of the better all around tires, but I would consider it a three-season tire, and if you treat it as such, it is a fantastic set of rubber.buy winter tires for winter if you live in such a climate.

  18. Slow learner! First set lasted 9000 miles. At that point they could not be balanced or aligned. Tried dealership and local tire dealer for resolution. Second set have 11,000 miles on them and are so noisy that you can not hear the radio w/o turning it up so high it hurts your ears. I thought I had damaged the 4 Matic transmission…MB dealer says it is the tires causing the problem. Alignment meets specs, however the tires are wearing unevenly and “cupping”.

  19. These were OEM replacement tires for the GL-550. The first set got almost 42,000 (expected 30,000). I inspected them constantly, but both rear tires blew out after the inside edge of the tire wore past the steel belt. (Could not see the wear from behind the car.) The replacements were chosen because they were OEM and had good reviews. 2 of the 4 tires were not round and caused 4 days in the shop trying to determine why the car vibration was unacceptable above 60 MPH. Would not buy again. On the other and, Tire Rack sent two new tires to the Mercedes dealer quickly. (I had originally had the tires sent to my home.) BIG bravo to Tire Rack. Great place to buy tires (and I imagine anything else).

  20. These are the worst tires I’ve had. My wife is driving our GL450 in a very relaxed manner. The tires lasted on 10,000 miles. At the time of purchase they balanced & aligned. Pirelli refused to admit that the tires are defective. The tires are wearing unevenly, expensive and don’t last at all. I won’t buy Pirelli’s again.

  21. These Pirelli Scor[pion Zero tires were OEM standard on my Volvo XC60 T6 and have lasted 48,500. I will be replacing them with a new set as they have earned the reward. They are trouble free. Wear evenly, and are quiet. The Volvo goes well with them in the snow and on wet and or dry pavement. I will change them at the current mileage as winter is coming but if it were summer, I think I can get perhaps 5000 more miles on them. A really good tire.

  22. Tire in Dry conditions can be noisy on dry pavement. Tire exceeds expectations in ANY type of wet weather, rain, snow, ice, fog you name it. That is when this tire performs as good as any Michelin Top of the line tire. As long as you get them rotated you should have no problem getting 50K miles out of this tire. Have driven Bridgestone, Firestone, Michelins , Continentals in comparison the this Pirelli Model Scorpion Zero . It has earned the right to be called Top Shelf material.

  23. These are most horrendously loud tires that I have ever had on any car. Unfortunately couple of years ago the choices for 21 size tires were only 2 the other being continentals which care originally on this suv. When it came to replacing them I went with these tires and boy what mistake that was! The turned a smooth driving $80K SUV into a off road truck sounding annoyance at any speed! The road noise is so bad that I thought I had something else wrong with this vehicle and had it check out. It turns out that these tire wear out unevenly and create a rig type wear pattern. Although the noise is apparent from the beginning it only gets worse as it wears out. I would not buy or recommend these tires at all. They should only be sold as off road type tires.

  24. The tires were the OEM on my 2010 Volvo XC60 FWD. These tires have worn out incredibly quickly. I have had nothing but trouble driving my vehicle in rain and snow. If I am at a complete stop, it is very difficult to get started again if the ground is wet with rain or snow. The traction is terrible. I feel very unsafe with these tires and would not recommend them to anyone. Wish I had read reviews on these tires a long time ago. Would have replaced them. It rained the other day and I felt like I had no control over my vehicle on the highway. I have 30K on these tires and should have replaced them at 15K or even before. Replacing these tires with Michelins.

  25. The tires were the OEM on my SUV ME/BE 2012 GL450 . These tires have worn out incredibly quickly. I have trouble driving my SUV in rain and snow. If I stop, it is too difficult to get started again if the ground is wet with snow. The traction is terrible. I feel very unsafe with these tires and would not recommend them to anyone. I have to replaced them. It rained the other day and I felt like I had no control over my SUV on the highway. I have 32K on these tires and i have to replaced them . Poor winter performance as they have aged, and I frankly no longer trust them in snow (or heavy rain) these tires .i Replace them with The Scorpion Verde All Season Plus. Hopefully they’ll work better for me here in northern New Jersey.

  26. BE AWARE DON’T GET THESE TIRES!! ACCORDING TO PIRELLI THEY HAVE NO WARRENTY ON THEM!!!!I purchased these tires for my wife’s suv. In 4000 miles these tires have worn down to 2/32nd in the rear and 6/32 in the front. My wife is the safest driver I have ever met, I assure you she isn’t drag racing her suv on the weekends. I have been forced to buy a new pair of tires, and have only had them for 10 months, which means another grand out the door. This is pathetic, and when I called Pirelli I was told that I have the Asimmetrico tires (which I don’t) then I was told all scorpion zero tires are high performance and offer no warranty at all, and the best they could do is offer me 10% off my next set of tires. What a Joke. I have 4 cars, three of which have Pirelli tires on them and once the tread ware on each of them warrants replacement I will not be going back to Pirelli.

  27. Worst oem tire ever after 2500 miles took lr4 back to dealer for uneven tire wear and excessive tire noise they rotated and balance tire still 7000 mile noisy and uneven wear then alignment on new 2016 lr4 after 12000 tires are completely worn out less than a year replacing 4 tires on 14500 miles

  28. 29. OEM tires on the LR4. Treadwear is bad. 15k miles and will be on the wear bars soon. Rotated every 6k. One tire has had an internal failure. A large knot is visible on the sidewall. One and Done experience with Pirelli! Stay away!

  30. I bought a set about 2 years ago and put around 12,000 miles on it. Then the rear tires where torn apart from the inside. I replaced the 2 tires with the same tire and left the ones in the front. About 7000 miles later the front had the same issues. The car was alighned and was perfetly fine.Apparently this is a issue that is common with MB and these specific tires. Im not sure if the problem is the car or the tires are just Crap. I switched all 4 to Continentals DWS06 today and have scheduled a new alighnment with MB. Hopefully I will have better news for the Continentals. In General I have not found anyone with good referals for the Pirelli’s, so I do not think that it is a coincidence

  31. Have this tires on 2010 Mercedes GL550 not even a year old. I live in Maryland mixture of highway and city driving in all weather conditions. These are one of the worst tires i have ever purchased!!! Tires are noisy at any speed above 45. Tires are a nightmare in wet weather. Any steady or heavy downpour and tires hydroplane at anything above 45. My previous GL550 had Continental DWS 06 on it and rode well in all weather and driving conditions. MPG was up 3 on the Continentials. I will be removing the Pirellis and going with the Continentials. BE WARNED!! these are dealer OEM for whatever reason and they will push them. Even thought the Continentals cost less don’t be fooled. They are the better tire.

  32. It’s an okay tire but I recommend you look elsewhere if you can. Unfortunately, I’m in a position where this is one of about 3 tires I can choose from. I dislike the options enough that I am considering buying different wheels and tires altogether. I have little positive to say about the tire other than they did okay the two times it snowed lightly in central Missouri, and that they seem to do reasonably well when it’s wet. Our first set only lasted approximately 27000mi. In the tire’s defense, this is due to the fact that the dealer was inflating them 10 pounds over the recommended pressure. as they wore to about half-life and down they sounded like loud truck tires (a whine, not the mud tire roar through). They didn’t balance well either and required lots of counterweights; they really need a shot that can road-force balance the things. Towards the end of their life, they had also developed (so told when having them changed) lumpy spots.
